Premier Plus in the North

Coniston Shooting Ground is the North Wests most extensive shooting ground and the CPSA’s only Premier Plus ground in North of England. It was established in 1990 on The Coniston Estate in North Yorkshire. Set in 1400 acres and tucked away you might want to make extra time for your journey, if only to soak up the stunning Yorkshire Dales landscape.

Peter Manley and his team have created a shooting oasis. Sporting targets are laid out in natural woodland and open country with an 86ft tower and two grouse butts that replicate the kind of targets you would face in this iconic county during the game season. The Skeet, DTL, Compak, ABT, OT and UT layouts are all covered and available six days a week.

If you are a seasoned shooter or a beginner you can have a lesson from the team of dedicated instructors who have years of experience in both clay and game and are also available six days a week.

Official dealers of Beretta, Browning, Caesar Guerini, Fabarm, Yildiz and Silma the gun room offers a wide range of new stock as well a large number of second hand guns which change regularly. There are also demo guns available to try before you buy.

There is always a comprehensive selection of cartridges in stock including 12, 20, 410 and 28 bore by your favourite brands; Hull, Gamebore and Lyalvale. There is also available an ever–changing selection clothing and accessories.

Equally authentic is the purpose built clubhouse with its café and wood burning stove.

Peter considers, “Our favourite targets must be the simulated grouse and partridge which are launched off a Promatic Huntsman machine. We have had one machine for many years and are so impressed we got a second last year.”

Carl, who sets all our targets believes, “It is important to have a consistent presentation which is why we use Promatic clays in all our traps.”
